About MISP
The Massage in Schools Programme (MISP) is a highly successful, international, positive touch programme that has been running since 2000. It has been implemented into 50 countries world-wide. It was created by two inspirational women: Mia Elmsäter & Sylvie Hétu.
MISA is the association that supports this programme, providing membership, training and guidance for those wishing to become MISP trainers or hold workshops in their schools.
The clothed, peer massage is:
For children 4-12 years old
Given and received with the child’s permission
Given by the children, to each other
On the back, head, arms and hands
10-15 minutes daily
MISP is also used by children and their parents.
By becoming an instructor, you’ll have valuable tools to help children to learn. The MISP uses the body’s natural relaxation and cognitive processes to help children become engaged in the learning process.
The two-day interactive instructor’s training course or equivalent online course can contribute to continuing professional development for teachers and children’s workforce staff.
The fourteen hours of MISP Instructor’s training includes the following:
The Massage in Schools Programme – background
The children – child development
Anatomy and physiology
Research and studies
Education and promotion
Implementing MISP
The MISP Routine
Touch games and movement
Professional aspects
Instructors receive a detailed manual and resources to support their work. The trainer provides on-going support.
On completion of your training, you will become a life-time member of MISA. This will allow you to access the resources and support you need to become a proficient Instructor.
